Sunday 5th November: Club Meeting

Another sunny Sunday for our club meeting today but it was starting to feel wintry and there was a definite need for hats and scarves. Racing was over a distance of 180 yards at 3/4yld/lb or club mark. In the Lightweight group the fortunes from last weeks final were reversed, with Doug and Steph's Stormbourne Spitfire taking a few yards from the traps and leading from start to finish ahead of the fast finishing Whitby Whirl owned by Sam and Pete. Whitby Whirl came off the track lame after her run in the final, so we all send our wishes for a speedy recovery. The Middleweight group saw a win for Angie and Mike's Savernake Top Gun after the winner was placed last due to being in the wrong race jacket (someone sack the Secretary!), this meant a runner's up spot for Colin and Tina's Thunder Road.

Sticking with Colin and Tina, once again they had a 1-2 in the Heavyweight group but this time it was That's My Boy who came from the back to win by a head from his brother Demolition Man. Making it four dogs and four finalists, Dillinger also came off the back to win the Veteran Group from Angie and Mike's Savernake Muntjac in second. Sara's Harvest Moon keeps on defying the handicapper by winning the Graded group and won despite being moved back two marks again this week. Angie and Mike's Savernake Dormouse ran a valiant second place. As always a big thank you to everyone who helped out by doing jobs on the day and a well done to all runners, finalists and winners.

It was lovely to welcome Sheila and Steven's Able Mabel and Caroline and Pete's Rock It Up onto the race card for their first race meeting and they didnt disappoint with a third place in the Consolation Final for Mabel and third in the L/W final for Pippa. Once again there were more puppy cuddles with Elsy, Leo, Gracie and Harry. A fab looking litter! We are racing again next Sunday, please book in by 9pm on Wednesday.

Sunday 29th October: Club Meeting

With the last of the opens over for another season we were back to club for a trophy meeting and the start of the final stretch of club meetings for the year. We will be running throughout November until our planned Christmas Meeting which will take place on the 26th (with back up date of December 10th if needed due to bad weather).

Once again the weather was fairly kind for this time of the year but there was a nip in the air and a strong wind which meant both dogs and owners needed to wrap up warm. A good entry of over 50 dogs saw the groups split into Light/Medium/Heavy and veterans off weight handicap and Light and Heavyweight graded groups. With our shorter track out on a sabbatical due to needing some repairs to the ground just in front of the sand finish, we moved over to our Open track and ran over the longer distance of 180 yards at 3/4 yard per lb or club handicap mark.

A big thanks to all of you that helped out by doing jobs, especially those that were in position all day, as the weather deteriorates it is easy to sit back and not help, but we couldnt run meetings without you and we are very grateful.

Congratulations to all of our runners including our group winners; Pete and Sam's Whitby Whirl is really hitting some form at the moment and won the Lightweight group in fine style from Doug and Steph's Stormbourne Spitfire in second, the Middleweight group saw another win for Steve's Wild Apache who was a comfortable winner ahead of Pat and Jeff's Jammy Dodger, once again Tina and Colin's Demolition Man beat his brother That's My Boy in the Heavyweight group where as Angie and Mike's Savernake Muntjac turned around the result in the heat to win the Veteran final from Tina and Colin's Dillinger. In the Lightweight graded group Sara's Harvest Moon came from the back to take the win from Angie and Mike's Savernake Dormouse and in the Heavyweight graded group Mac's Bleau Bullet led from start to finish and held off a late challenge from Lynne and Alistair's Feeling Frosty.

Our Trophy steward Angie had organised trophies for all finalists and in the Heavyweight Graded group Bleau Bullet was the first recipient of the Agile Trophy which has kindly been donated to the club by Steve and Wutt. This annual trophy will be run for each October and all four finalists had a trophy to take away for a year along with a replica to keep. Many thanks to Steve and Wutt for sponsoring the trophies and supporting the club.

Congratulations also to our two new racing dogs that passed their clearing trials at the meeting, namely Sheila and Steven's Mabel and Stephen's Tyson, we wish them both every success in their future racing careers. As one set of pups head on to the track it was fantastic to welcome another to the track for the first time; at just over 8 weeks old and loving lots of cuddles and attention were Jacquie and Dean's Elsy, Sarah and Steve's Leo and Tina and Colin's Harry all out of the Kinda Hush and Bring It Back litter and not with us today but also to join us at the club are Steve and Sue's Gracie and Andy and Linda's Orla - next spring should be fun with lots of pups to get going!

A polite reminder that our Christmas meal is booked for Sunday 3rd December at the Old Bell and Crown in Hatherden and deposits of £5 are now due (see Lynne for more details). Our next club meeting is Sunday 5th November.

Sunday 8th October: Club Meeting

Although the trees are now looking very autumnal we were blessed with another sunny Sunday for our latest club meeting. With the season drawing towards a close we had a few less in numbers on the race card but still had 17 competitive races and a number of trials. We also welcomed Becky with her puppy Tarka along for the first time and he took to it like a pro. Racing was in five groups plus veterans and there were some familiar faces amongst the winners - congratulations to Pete and Sam who once again had a double with Whitby Whirl (18) winning the Lightweight group from Sarah's Tinkers Moondancer (20) and Whitby Jet (3) winning the Heavyweight graded group from Angie and Mike's Savernake Shooting Star (1). Tina and Colin's Demolition Man (29) also repeated his victory from last time out over litter and kennel mate That's My Boy (30).  Angie and Mike also had another win in the Veteran group with Savernake Muntjac (21) from  Savernake Sporting Gun (24) leaving our only new winners in the Lightweight Graded group and Middleweight groups where Sara's Harvest Moon (3) took the win from Honey Child (3) and Steve's Wild Apache (25) took the win from Savernake Top Gun (26) respectively. With a break from racing over the next two weekends we return to club on Sunday 29th October.

Sunday 24th September: Club Meeting

Another sunny Sunday and although a fairly small meeting we enjoyed a nice and relaxed day with some really good racing and close finishes, especially in the H/W graded group which saw 1-3rd all within a head of each other! Racing was over 150 yards at 1/2 yd/lb with graded racing off club handicap. Congratulations to our group winners; Pete and Sam with both Whitby Whirl in the Lightweights and Whitby Jet in the Heavyweight graded groups, Rob and Darcia with Duncton Dark Duke in the Middle weights, Angie and Mike with Savernake Sparrowhawk in the Lightweight graded group and Savernake Muntjac in the Veterans and Tina and Colin with Demolition Man in the Heavy weights. Sheila and Stevens puppy Mabel is running well with company, Tony's Pippa is also coming along lovely and one of the highlights of the day was seeing Dave and Sue's Heidi having a run up the track, this little girl has gone through so much and really seems to be enjoying having a short run after the lure. As always thanks to those people who helped make the day a success and we look forward to seeing you all for our next club meeting on Sunday 8th October.

Sunday 27th August: Club Meeting

We were only expecting a small meeting as many of our members were still down in Cornwall for the West Cornwall open so were delighted to have a pretty full race card for the day. It was a balmy summer sunday and the sun didnt stop shining all day which left many owners going home with red heads and faces! Racing was split into weights and graded and as usual there were some very competitive races throughout. For the second week in a row the Lightweight group was won by Pete and Sam's Whitby Whirl, this time she took the win from her litter sister Savernake Sparrowhawk belonging to Mike and Angie, the Middleweight group also saw another win for Dave and Sue's Looney Tunes who took the win from a fast finishing Savernake Tawny Owl. The Heavyweight group was well contested with Tina and Colin's Demolition Man finishing just ahead of Lesley's Xchange - a reversal of the result last weekend! The Heavyweight Graded racing was well supported with the addition of Dan, Dan, Dianna and Caroline's dogs which led to a need for main and consolation semi-finals, but it was Pete and Sam's Whitby Jet who came out the eventual winner - despite being put back two marks after winning last time out. Dan's The General was a close runner up. In the Lightweight Graded group Stephen's youngster Speed Limit came off the back to take the win in fine style from Terry's My Best Buddy in second and finally there was a win for Angie and Mike's Savernake Muntjac in the Lightweight Veterans ahead of Sarah and Steve's Bring It Back who was running in his first Veteran meeting. I would like to add a big thank you to all of those members that have helped out over the last few meetings while many of our committee have been on their holidays - although your help is appreciated all of the time. We are racing again next Sunday ahead of our Autumntime Open which takes place on the 10th September.

Sunday 20th August: Club Meeting

With many of our regulars attending the West Cornwall open it was a fairly quiet day at club, however we still had about 40 dogs on the race card and everyone pulled together to put on an enjoyable and relaxed meeting. We were blessed with some lovely sunshine and everything went like clock-work. Racing was split into groups off weights and club handicap, the distance was 150 yards at half a yard per pound/mark. The Lightweight Group saw another win for Dave and Sue's in-form Looney Tunes who came off the back to take the win from Pete and Sam's Whitby Whirl in second, the Middleweight Group was won by Sarah and Steve's Up For It who ran a fine race to surprise his owners and lead Angie and Mike's Savernake Tawny Owl across the line. Lesley once again had two wins in the remaining weight groups, with Xtreme winning the Upper Middleweights from Pat and Jeff's Jammy Dodger and Xchange winning the Heavyweights from Tina and Colin's Demolition Man in second - a repeat of the HW group last week! The Heavyweight Graded group was won by Pete and Sam's Whitby Jet who took the win from Lynne and Alistair's Feeling Frosty in second and the Lightweight Graded group was won by Sue and Steve's youngster Kinda Ready from Stephen's Speed Limit who was runner up. The Veteran group was once again won by Angie and Mike's Savernake Muntjac. There were plenty of trials both before and after racing and it was pleasing to see Lynne and Alistair's boys Chance and Raif making good progress as were Sheila and Steven's Mabel and Liam's Izzy. After hosting a fantastic National Championship meeting on the 6th August with the track in near perfect condition it was back to club racing this week. A big well done to our club winners at the Championships which included in the NE 18lbs group Andy's SIDARI TEGAN - now a National Graduate, in the NE 24lbs group Sue and Dave's LOONEY TUNES - also now a National Graduate. We were also well represented across the board with many other group finalists. On to the club racing which was competed over a distance of 150 yards at half yard/lb and half yard/mark for those running off club handicap. A big well done to Colin and Tina's Thunder Road who is gaining in confidence each week and won the Heavyweight Graded group in fine style despite being the back dog, Lynne and Alistair's Feeling Frosty took a solid second place. In the Lightweight graded group there was a 1-2 for Patrick and Jade with Persian Prince just taking the nod from kennel mate Persian Leela. The Lightweight final saw a win for Dave and Sue's new National Graduate Looney Tunes from Steve's Apache Gold, in the Middleweights a close battle between Lesley's Xtreme and Steve's Wild Apache saw Xtreme reverse the result in the heat to take the win, making it two in a row for Lesley, Xchange then won the Heavyweight group from Tina and Colin's Demolition Man and Angie and Mike's Savernake Muntjac won the Veteran group from Tina and Colin's Dillinger. Once again we welcomed Roy and Sue from Trowbridge Camera Club who have put up some fantastic photographs of the racing on our Andover Face book page and after all the racing and trials were completed we all had a picnic.

It was a day for doubles, with lots of owners being successful and taking both first and second places in their respective finals. Sunday 14th May: Club Meeting

With the open season well underway and a few members making the trip to the Midlands for the Heart of England Open we had a fairly quiet club meeting today with only 45 dogs on the programme. After some heavy overnight rain the track had a little give and we were blessed with warm sunny weather all day. Racing was in seven groups over 150 yards at half a yard/lb. The Lightweight group saw a win for Pete and Sam's inform girl Whitby Whirl, beating litter sister Savernake Sparrowhawk belonging to Angie and Mike. The Middleweight group was won by Andy and Linda's Millworth Bangers who flew from the traps to take a comfortable win from Dave and Sue's Looney Tunes in second place. The Heavyweight group was won by Steve and Wutt's Agile Dondodat and it was pleasing to see Alun and June's youngster Evansabuv claiming second place in his first official race meeting after clearing last sunday. The Heavyweight Veteran final was well competed with Tina and Colin's Dillinger coming off the back to take the win from Angie and Mike's Savernake Sporting Gun, whereas her kennel mate Savernake Muntjac won the Lightweight Veteran Final. The graded group was won by Sara's Harvest Moon and the Racers group was won by Sarah's Sylvia running in her first meeting. We look forward to welcoming you all to our Springtime Open next Sunday - offers for help on the day would be much appreciated.

Sunday 2nd April: Club Meeting

Our first official club race meeting of the season and it was a busy one with no less than 37 dogs listed for trials and another 20 in racing. The sun shone all day and we were treated to a hot air balloon take off in the field behind the pub next door. Racing was over 150 yards at half a yard per lb in L/W, M/W and Veteran groups and we had a separate graded group as voted for at our recent annual general meeting. A fantastic battle in the LW group saw Caroline and Pete's Jas It Up reversing the semi final result to take the win from Sam and Pete's Whitby Whirl, the M/W group saw a win for Doug and Steph's Glory Road, the Veteran final was won by Tina and Colin's Dillinger and the Graded group was won by Darcia and Rob's Duncton Dark Duke. A big thanks to all of the workers who went above and beyond to see us through the mammoth trials list and kept the day running smoothly. It was lovely to have some new visitors join us for their first experience of racing, we welcomed Sarah, Katie and Fleur with their experienced lure coursing and show dogs Sylvia, Ivy, Teddy, Tilly, Fancy and Favour and pup Mariska, it was also lovely to welcome back Sheila and Steven with their new addition Mabel. Congratulations to Jane's Scout who successfully passed his clearing trials today, Angie's Tansy and Bella are also half way there after having their first clearing trial after racing. We are running again next Sunday (9th April) - this will be a scratch meeting in rough weight groups to prepare for the upcoming opens and National Championships.

Sunday 26th March - graded multiple trials meeting

Today we held another trials meeting with dogs running in graded groups, the winners in the first round went back a yard and the runners at the back moved forward one, this mixed up the second round and brought about a few changes in the results. Although not an official race meeting counting for club points the first round trials winners were Cheeky Devil, Nac Mac Feegle, Apache Gold, Hurricane Fly, Gunna Be A Devil, Luna, Hayabusa Babe and Little Mouse. Second round trials winners were Sidari Tegan, Nac Mac Feegle, Apache Gold, Hurricane Fly, Wild Apache, My Best Buddy, Hayabusa Babe and Little Mouse. It was lovely to see Angie and Mike back at the track after Angie's knee replacement surgery. We are running again next sunday (2nd April)

Sunday 19th March - Trials meeting

With dogs only beginning their journey to fitness we held a second trials meeting today, a good entry saw plenty of solo and multiple trials. It was especially pleasing to see last years crop of pups making progress with many of them now looking good in 4 dog races. We are running again next Sunday the 26th March.

Sunday 12th March - Trails meeting

After a very long winter break we finally had the go ahead from the groundsman to say the track was ready to run on and so we held our first meeting of 2017 today. The weather gods were still not being kind with heavy overnight rain and a persistent shower over Weyhill when we arrived at the track at 10am, however the rain soon stopped and we even had a few glimpses of sun throughout the day.

With many dogs making their first outings of the new year we held a trials meeting with a mixture of programmed multiple trials followed by solos. It was fantastic to see the excited look on the faces of the whippets as they made their way down to the track and pretty much the same could be said of the owners too!

A great entry saw 32 multiple trials plus many solo runs on the programme and all went without a hitch, the usual thanks goes out to all who helped on the day and made things run so smoothly. We are running again next Sunday (19th March), please have your entries to our Secretary Darcia by 9pm on Wednesday.
