Sunday 6th December - Our Christmas Meeting 2015

Our final race meeting of 2015 and we saw the season out in fine style with our celebration of Christmas. It was well attended with 40 dogs on the race card including a host of young dogs running in their first race meeting after clearing last time out. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the huge raffle and brought along food to share; there was certainly plenty with many bringing along home made treats and the obligatory mulled wine courtesy of Steve and Sue. Racing was split into three weight groups plus Veterans and Racers over a distance of 150 yards at 1/2 yard/lb. The Middleweight group saw Steve's Apache Gold and David and Sue's Looney Tunes racing competitively for the first time, and they didn't disappoint with both dogs making it to the final and Looney Tunes, running off a puppy handicap of 20lb, winning by a head from Andy and Linda's Millworth Bangers in second and Apache Gold gaining third running off her puppy handicap of 19lb. In the Lightweight group there were also first outings for Andy's Sidari Tegan and Pete and Sam's Whitby Whirl, both girls ran well with Sidari Tegan coming second in the final (although placed fourth for wearing the wrong race jacket) from her puppy handicap of 17lb and Whitby Whirl being knocked out in her heat but going on to win her Consolation final despite a poor trap. The group was won by Caroline and Peter's yougster Jas It Up (litter sister to Looney Tunes) who was running off a puppy handicap of 18lb and continues to impress despite losing another mark off her puppy allowance. Ray and Gaye's Wilsdon Little Mac was placed second with Andy and Linda's Millworth Back in third. The Heavyweight group saw another win for Jeanette's Chermayeff who fought his way through a busy field to take the win from Steve's Red Apache with Rob and Darcia's Duncton Spirit of the Wind in third and Angie and Mike's Savernake Shooting Star in fourth. With only two veterans in the field Pat's Mr Cooper took the win from Ray and Gaye's Wilsdon Billy Mac in second and Rob and Darcia's pup Geno ran with them to gain some more race experience. In another hard fought final Pete and Sam's Whitby Jet won the Racers group from Trev's Ebony Express with Caroline and Peter's Day Dreamer in third and John and Lorraine's Tanzanite Boy in fourth. Congratulations to Steve's Deano who successfully completed his clearing trials. Tina and Colin's Bill and Ben made good progress in their mixed trials and it was lovely to have a visit from Pat and Jeff who ran their pup Arty. A big thanks to everyone who has ran at Andover this year with a special thanks to all of those that help out by doing jobs both before, during and after every club meeting. We look forward to welcoming all to our AGM which will take place at 12 oclock on Sunday 24th January at the Ambassador Club in Tadley. If anyone has any items for the agenda or wishes to stand/or stand down from the committee then please could you contact the Secretary by Sunday 17th January at the latest. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Sunday 22nd November

Today we held a graded meeting with the main focus being on ensuring that the many young and upcoming dogs at the club were given experiences to improve their confidence and build their track craft. We were delighted that the four pups that were entered for clearing trials all passed with flying colours and we look forward to welcoming Gunna Be A Devil (Viv's Ole Gunnar), Sidari Tegan (Andy's Tegan), Looney Tunes (Sue and David's Willow) and Apache Gold (Steve's Poppy) onto the race card and wish them all the best in their future racing careers. Another group of youngsters were gaining experience in the racing; Lou's Nac Mac Feegle, Pete and Sam's Whitby Whirl (Ruby who has finally got her own racing name!), Darcia and Rob's Duncton Spirit of the North and Angie and Mike's Savernake Sparrowhawk all continue to make good progress, as did Angie's Ruby and Pearl, Steve's Deano and Colin and Tina's Bill and Ben who are still at the trialling stage. The racing itself was on our main open and Championship track over a distance of 165 yards off club handicap. Despite the best efforts of the handicapper a number of dogs came off the back mark to take wins, these included Millworth Bangers (-6), Duncton Spirit of the Wind (-6), Backchat (-4), Duncton Dark Knight (-6), Wilsdon Little Mac (-4), Savernake Shooting Times (-2), Chermayeff (-9) and Mr Cooper (-2), with wins also for Shadow (sc), Nac Mac Feegle (sc), Savernake Shooting Star (-2) and Whitby Whirl (sc). Our final race meeting of the year will take place on Sunday the 6th December and this will be our Christmas meeting so please bring along some nibbles and your party hats so that we can celebrate the start of the festive period. This will be a trophy meeting with racing in weight groups and special festive gifts for all finalists, so please can you book in early (by Saturday 28th at the latest) so that we can make arrangements. Please also remember that Sam needs menu choices and final payments for the Christmas meal to her on that day.

Sunday 15th November

After 48 hours of rain and strong winds, it was a nice surprise to arrive at the track to find it was in perfect condition for racing, this is a testament to the many hours of work that Doug puts in at the field preparing the track, for which we are all grateful. The weather was kind to us and although overcast and a bit windy, the rain stayed away. We held two rounds of racing was over a distance of 150 yards and the handicap was 1/2yd/lb plus a yd/yr for veterans. There were first round wins for Savernake Bird of Prey (Vet 24lb), Chermayeff (32lb), Shadow (Vet 24lb), Duncton Dark Knight (29lb), Whitby Jet (-3), Savernake Sporting Gun (24lb), Nac Mac Feegle (Pup 17lb), Another Millworth (22lb) and Millworth Back (20lb) and second round wins for Savernake Bird of Prey (Vet 24lb), Jungle Face (29lb), Mr Cooper (Vet 26lb), Chermayeff (32lb), Ebony Express (-1), Savernake Sporting Gun (24lb), Jas It Up (Pup 17lb), Ruby (18lb), Mac Nac Feegle (Pup 17lb). With an abundance of young dogs coming through, the trials were all about the pups and many of them were fitted into the second round of racing. Congratulations to Rob and Darcia's Geno who successfully passed his clearing trials and will now run as Duncton Spirit of the North. Dave and Sue's Willow also went very well in the second round of racing as did Angie's Ruby and Pearl. Viv's Olle Gunnar will go in for clearing trials next week as will Andy's Tegan and Steve's Poppy. Steve's Deano is coming on well from the same litter and Colin and Tina's Bill and Ben continue to make improvements. It was nice to welcome some new faces with Sylvana and her husband who had made the journey up from Cornwall to trial Flint and Chalky. We are racing again next sunday and this will be a graded meeting off club handicap.

Sunday 25th October

With another open season out of the way it was back to club racing for our final run of meetings for 2015. Once again we were gifted some lovely late autumn sunshine and the track was in perfect condition after the heavy rain on Saturday. Lots of racers turned out for what was another relaxed and enjoyable meeting. Racing was over 150 yards at half a yard/lb and was split into 5 weight groups including veterans and our Racers group. In the Lightweight group Caroline and Peter's youngster Jas It Up (16lb) was unbeaten all day running off a puppy handicap of -4lbs, however she did not have it all her own way with Patrick and Jade's Persian Leela (19lb) having to give her a start of 1 and a half yards but running her close in what was a thrilling final. In the Heavyweight group a stunning trap from Jeanette's Chermayeff (32lb) saw him rocket to the front to beat John and Lorraine's Jungle Face (29lb) into second place. The Lightweight veterans saw another 1-2 for Angie and Mike with Savernake Bird of Prey (24lbs) taking the win from kennelmate Stepping Stones (22lb) and in the Heavyweight veteran group there was another win for Pat's Mr Cooper (26lb) who has been unbeaten in club racing since recently turning six, he took the win from Tina and Colin's Shadow (28lbs). The Racers group saw another exciting finish with Pete and Sam's Whitby Jet (29lb) weaving his way through traffic to go on and take a comfortable win from Caroline and Peter's Day Dreamer (29lbs) in second. Away from the racing there were a whole host of pups continuing to trial at different stages of their early racing careers, Tina and Colin's Bill and Ben ran with company as did sister Willow belonging to David and Sue, Steve's Deano successfully run up with one dog as did sister Tegan belonging to Andy, Viv's Olle Gunnar ran with two dogs and Darcia and Rob's Geno had two good trials with three other dogs and will be ready for clearing trials next time out. Pete and Sam's Ruby had a good clearing trial and will go into racing next week. We are racing again next Sunday and then every two weeks until our last meeting of the year which will take place on the 6th December (weather permitting). A request please to all club members to return any club trophies you may have at home to our new Trophy Secretary Sam so that we can have a sort out and put together a fuller itinerary of trophy meetings in 2016.

Sunday 6th September

Just when we all thought that the summer was over, blue skies and full sunshine greeted us for our first club meeting in a month. In a very busy day of trials and races we welcomed back some absent friends that we had not seen for a while and there was a lovely chilled atmosphere throughout. Racing was over 150 yards at half yard/lb in 6 groups. Blasting out of the traps to take the win in the lightweight group was John and Lorraine's Bombay Bad Boy from Daphne's Little Gem in second. The Middleweight group saw Angie and Mike's Savernake Top Gun go unbeaten to take the win from Lou's Some Dog and this feat was matched by her brother Duncton Dark Knight owned by Rob and Darcia who won the Heavyweight group from his kennel mate Duncton Spirit of the Wind in second. The Racers group saw some very close heats with Sam and Pete's Whitby Jet coming out on top in the final, Julie's Lyssemoor Lad took second place. Pat's Mr Cooper was a winner in his first club meeting running as a veteran and had to work hard to stay in front of Tina and Colin's fast finishing Shadow. Finally the lightweight veteran group saw a win for Jayne's Winterfellin Babybelle. Once again there were lots of puppy trials with Caroline's Jasmine and Lou's Enzo looking really good running in company and Tina and Colins Bill and Ben and sister Willow belonging to David and Sue also coming along nicely.

Sunday 9th August

On a fairly quiet day with only 40 runners on the card we returned to club racing for the first time in a month. Doug and John has spent the previous day cutting the grass and the track was in good condition albeit in need of some rain. It is on days like this when we really feel the benefit of the sand finish to protect feet and toes in the middle of the summer heat. Racing was divided into three weight groups plus Racers and Veterans. Returning to her usual blistering form post-season Andy and Linda's Another Millworth won the lightweight group in fine style ahead of her kennel mate Millworth's Back - there is no surprise that these two girls lie first and third in the current NPWRA Nationals Bitches Point League, both winning their groups in the recent 4th National Championships and we are all proud of their achievements. The Middleweight group saw a win for Angie and Mike's Savernake Sporting Gun, with her daughter Savernake Top Gun taking third, splitting the family was Steph and Doug's Shoeless Joe Jackson who has been running better and better of late. The Heavyweight group saw a return for Jeanette's Chermayeff who has been out injured for a number of weeks before coming back to the track to take a win at the 4th Nationals last weekend and winning the group today. It is interesting to note that Race 8 saw the first to third from the NE 32lb final last sunday running together - a testament to the quality of the dogs that we get running at our club. John and Lorraine's Jungle Face was runner up. In one of the closest finishes of the day Julie's Lyssemoor Lad finished strongly to take the win on the line from Trev's Ebony Express in the Racers Group. In the Lightweight Veterans we had a repeat from the last meeting with Angie and Mike's Savernake Bird of Prey beating her kennel mate Stepping Stones into second place. Unfortunately there was only one runner in the Heavyweight Veterans, with Tina and Colin's Shadow still looking like a youngster as he flew up the track. Once again we had a number of pups trialling well, Angie and Mike's Wren is now finding her feet and running well with company as is Viv's Ole Gunnar and Darcia and Rob's Geno. Tina and Colin's Bill and Ben are starting to get their legs together and looked keen and Angie's Pearl and Ruby came out of the traps with no problems. Our next club meeting will take place on Sunday 6th September, a week before our Autumn Open. Open Entry forms are available to download on the downloads page and dont forget that the closing date is Wednesday 3rd September.

Sunday 19th July

On another sunny Sunday we all arrived at the track after a months break due to Opens and Championship meetings, overnight rain had cleared to leave us with blue skies and a cooling breeze. A good entry saw racing in 6 groups including the Racers group and Veterans, this was over a distance of 150 yards at a handicap of 1/2 yard/lb. Huge congratulations to Bombay Bad Boy (forever to be known as Pot Noodle - thanks Steph) belonging to John and Lorraine who won the Lightweight group in fine style in his first race meeting, in fact he was unbeaten in his heat, semi and final, well done Billy. The Middleweight group saw a win for Steve's Red Apache, Jet took a bit of a knock at the end of the race and we all wish him a speedy recovery and hope that it is nothing too serious. In the Heavyweight group it was a 1-2 for Darcia and Rob with the youngster Duncton Dark Knight taking it from his kennel mate Spirit of the Wind. The Racers group saw an interesting battle between Pete and Sam's Whitby Jet and Trev's Ebony Express, with Whitby Jet coming from behind to take the win towards the end of the race. Angie and Mike also had a 1-2 with their two kennelmates Savernake Bird of Prey and Stepping Stones in the Lightweight Veterans and there was another win for Colin and Tina's Shadow in the Heavyweight Veterans. Sunday 17th May

After a months break due to Opens and National meetings it was great to get back to club for some racing and trials. Both tracks had received some TLC from Doug during the break and were looking fantastic with a fresh growth of grass and green sheen. Racing was over 150 yards at half yard/lb, with two rounds in rough weight groups. There were double heats wins for John and Lorraine's Jungle Face (P), Rob's Doolally, Sarah and Steve's Bring it Back, Steve and Sue's Kinda Hush & Kinda Busy, Rob and Darcia's Duncton Dark Knight and Tina and Colin's Shadow. Plus single wins for Ebony Express (congratulations to Max in his first official race at the club), Duncton Spirit of the Wind, Up for It, Tinkers Moondancer, Savernake Muntjac, Whitby Jet, Glory Road and Persian Kate. It was lovely to welcome some new faces to the club, with Jenny and Richards 14 month old pair; Ruby and Rio both taking to the track and showing massive improvement just between their first trials and their second. Tina and Colin gave their boys Bill and Ben a first little go behind the lure, Rob and Darcia's Geno went well and Pete and Sam's Ruby and John and Lorraine's Billy continue to run well in company. Julie's Poppy also showed improvement on only her second visit to the track. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our Open next weekend before we return to club racing in a months time on Sunday 14th June.

Sunday 19th April

Another well attended meeting despite the open season now moving in to full swing with some members making their way down to the Charity Open at Somerset. Racing was over 150 yards in two rounds and once again we decided to do some scratch practice ahead of the upcoming National Championships taking place next weekend. Congratulations to the following dogs who won both of their heats: Andy and Linda's Millworth's Back, Lorraine and John's Jungle Face, Sarah and Steve's Bring it Back, Angie and Mike's Savernake Sporting Gun, Rob and Darcia's Duncton Dark Knight and Sue and Steve's Kinda Busy. There were also single heat wins for Little Gem, Savernake Dormouse, Another Millworth, Whitby Jet, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Millworth Bangers and Shooting Starlight. In the trials, John and Lorraine's Billy went really well when running with another dog for the first time, Pete and Sam's Ruby is now coming through the traps in fine style and we welcomed Julie to the club with her dogs Tinka and Topaz. Best of luck to everyone running in the Nationals next weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone back at club for our next race meeting on Sunday 17th May.

Sunday 29th March

We have been pretty lucky with the weather so far this year but today we had persistent drizzle for most of the day alongside a fairly strong wind, however with just seven days to go until the Easter Charity Open there were lots of people keen to get some scratch practice and so we ran in rough weight groups over a distance of 150 yards. It was lovely to welcome Mick back to the track after missing the last six weeks due to a knee replacement and finally there was a full compliment of 'Savernake's' on the race card. In the first round there were wins for Bring it Back, Duncton Dark Knight, Backchat, Millworth Bangers, Chermayeff, Another Millworth, Agile Approach, Cheeky Devil, Hurricane Fly, Savernake Shooting Star, Kinda Busy and Star of Twilight. With everyone already fairly wet we cracked on with the second round of racing which saw second wins for Darcia and Rob's Duncton Dark Knight, Sarah & Steve's Bring it Back, Jeanette's Chermayeff, Andy & Linda's Another Millworth and kennel mate Millworth Bangers and Viv's Cheeky Devil. There were also second round wins for Savernake Sporting Gun, Jungle Face, Up for It and Mad for It. After there was more trials. John and Lorraine's Billy now looks the business coming through a closed trap, where as sister Ruby belonging to Pete and Sam had her first run through an open trap. Litter sister Wren has started much later but is growing in confidence and looking more keen on the lure. We also welcomed Steve's new charge, the gorgeous Deano to the club, although there was not much chance for puppy cuddles with the poor weather. Next week we look forward to welcoming everyone to the Charity Easter Open which we are hosting at the club before we return to more club racing on Sunday 19th April.
*******************************************************************************************
Sunday 15th March

Today was our first graded meeting of the year and the racing was over 150 yards at club handicap. In the week Doug had rolled both tracks and with the shorter track requiring some time to allow for new grass growth we made a swap to our longer more established track. As always there were a number of dogs that beat the handicapper in both rounds to take wins, these included Rob's Doolally, Tina and Colin's Shadow, John and Lorraine's Jungle Face, Jane's Endeavour, Anne and Bob's Hannah Montana, Pete and Sam's Whitby Jet, Angie's Sapphire's Gem and Jeanette's Chermayeff. There were also single heat wins for Andy and Linda's Millworth's Back & Millworth's Bangers, Patrick and Jade's Persian Leela, Viv's Cheeky Devil and John and Lorraine's Backchat. The pups from the Savernake Bird of Prey x Quiver litter continue to trial well at just 8 months and we welcomed some new faces with their dog Max who ran well when added in to the second round of racing. We are having a break next week and will be running again on Sunday 29th March when we will be holding a scratch meeting with dogs running in rough weight groups.

Both tracks are looking nice and smooth after Doug has rolled them this week.

****************************************************************************************************
Sunday 8th March
Another bumper turn out for our club racing today with over 50 dogs racing and trialling. It was great to see Angie back at the track after her enforced absence due to Mike's knee replacement and we hope it wont be long before they are both back racing together. Once again we were fairly lucky with the weather, with just a short shower of fine rain towards the end of the day. Racing was over 150 yards at half a yard/lb in three weight groups plus veterans and our racers group. Viv's Cheeky Devil (20lbs) won the lightweight group for the second week running, but didn't have it all his own way after being beaten into second place in both his heat and semi. Sunday 1st March
Unfortunately the meeting planned for last Sunday had to be postponed after the forecasted sunshine did not arrive to thaw the frost in the ground as we had hoped, so it was try again this week and I think all were pleased when we arrived at the track with the sun shining despite it still being quite cold. It was the opening meeting of the season in terms of proper racing with all dogs gaining points in their respective leagues. For the first time we introduced a group for the non-race bred dogs and points gained by these dogs will go towards their own league table, this is to be called the Cheryl Darcy League for Non-race bred Racers and there will be a trophy kindly donated by Stephi in memory of her sister Cheryl and velvet jacket for the dog that tops the league table at the end of the season. In the inaugural running Jo and Steve's Shooting Starlight took the group win from Pete and Sam's Whitby Jet in second place. The lightweight group was won by Viv's Cheeky Devil who finished ahead of Angie's youngster Sapphires Carnelian. In a very close finish Steve's Red Apache won the middleweight group from litter brother Endeavour belonging to Jane. I think there will be many more battles between these two litter mates as the season progresses. Jeanette's Chermayeff started back where he left off in the heavyweight group, winning from Rob and Darcia's youngster Duncton Dark Knight in second place. Angie had a one-two in the light weight veteran group with Sapphires Gem taking the win from Queens Topaz and in the heavyweight veterans Colin and Tina's Shadow took the win from Sara's Star of Twilight. The list of trialling dogs is now reducing as more enter the racing and two more off that list will be John and Lorraine's Jacob and Steph and Doug's Babe who have both now successfully passed their clearing trials. Other youngsters looking good in their early trials include John and Lorraine's Billy and Pete and Sam's Ruby both from the Savernake Bird of Prey x Quiver litter. We are racing again next week, this will be another weight meeting. Please enter by 9pm on Wednesday if you wish to attend.

Sunday 15th February
Second week back at the track and once again we held a trials meeting to help dogs gain fitness after the long winter break. Despite it being an overcast day, the rain stayed away and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Congratulations to Patrick and Jade's Leela, now to be known as Persian Leela after successfully passing her clearing trials. John and Lorraine's Jacob also went well in his first clearing trial and should be ready to add to the programme very soon. Billy and Ruby, both from the Savernake Bird of Prey x Quiver litter looked good in their first trials and Caroline and Peter's Gizmo seemed to be enjoying his runs.

There were multiple trial wins for Duncton Spirit of the Wind (x2), Whitby Jet (x2), Red Apache (x2), Millworth's Bang Tidy (x2), Sapphires Peridot (x2), Leela, Ted's Bonny Lad, Winterfellin Babybelle and Duncton Dark Knight (x2).

Our first official race meeting will be held next Sunday (22nd February), this will be a weight meeting over 150 yards at half yard/lb. All welcome.

Sunday 8th February
After the disappointment of a late postponement last weekend it was fantastic to finally get back to the track and run the dogs today. Doug has been busy preparing the ground over the winter and the track was near perfect despite the cold conditions and even some snow at the start of the week. We were thankful for the sunshine that shone all day and everyone - dogs plus their owners seemed to go home with a smile on their faces.

No proper racing, just lots of mixed trials and solos. It was lovely to have visitors from Gloucester and the Heart of England plus some new racers joining us for the first time. Congratulations to Doug and Steph's Babe who successfully passed his first clearing trial today and to Sam and Pete's Ruby who ran up in her first trial.

There were multiple trial wins for: Conway Khaleesi (x2), Chermayeff (x2), Little Gem, Mr Trotter (x2), Shadow, Shooting Starlight (x2), Harvest Moon, Red Apache, Conway Skye, Darkling Damsel, Mr Cooper and Hurricane Fly.

It was also a bit of a puppy-fest with Tina and Colin's Bill and Ben, Caroline's Jasmine, Kieran's Hope and Lou's Enzo sporting lovely winter jackets and vying for all of the cuddles and attention.

Our next race meeting will take place next sunday (15th February) and will once again be a trials day with multiple trials put together on a programme if required.

Jasmine, Bill and Ben all from the Bring it On x Honeybunch litter.
